Blaine Childress worked in Research & Development for 38 years at Sealed Air Corporation, reaching the title of Science Fellow. His assignments include Analytical Chemistry, Product and Process Development, Technology Protection, Product Innovation, and Technology Scouting at the Global R&D headquarters of Sealed Air Corp. in Duncan, SC.


He has extensive experience in intellectual property matters. He is a registered U.S. Patent Agent, and has supported Sealed Air R&D and Law Departments, in matters of opposition strategy, patent prosecution, and joint development agreements over the past 20 years. Blaine is a named inventor on 15 US Patents.


Blaine has an undergraduate degree in Textile Chemistry from Auburn University and a MS in Textile and Polymer Science from Clemson University. He is Alternate Councilor of the Western Carolinas American Chemical Society, a Member of American Chemical Society national Patent Committee, Vice-Chair of SC InnoVison, and serves on the Research Advisory Board of NC Agricultural and Technical State University.


Prior to retiring, Blaine managed Sealed Air’s Global Open Innovation programs since defining the program in 2007. His oversight included NineSights Gallery, MindSumo Challenges, and PerScouter technology monitoring. In 2012 he was recognized as an Open Innovation Champion at the 2012 Global Innovation Summit.


He continues to be active in non-profit organizations, publishing innovation articles to a local news magazine, forging collaborations between education and industry, and securing and supporting intellectual property pursuits for individuals and institutions.
